Parenting Children with Severe Difficulties Essay Example for Free
Parenting Children with Severe Difficulties Essay Becoming a parent needs some planning and preparationââ¬âmentally, socially and financially. Depending on various circumstances, parents may not be completely prepared when they have children. Still, having a child with severe disabilities could be shocking for some parents. In such cases, the child will need special care and attention from the parents, as well as from medical practitioners such as doctors and therapists. Parents need to be aware of the condition of the child and look for various ways to help the child become healthy and well. As the child grows up, the nature of stress and difficulties faced by the parents will also change. In addition to the physical needs of the child that the parents must look out for, they will also need to face several psychosocial struggles. According to Hastings and Beck (2004), parents of children with special needs, especially those relating to intellectual disabilities are subjected to stress and mental health-related problems because they need to adapt to social situations. They may experience different emotions depending on the behavior of their child, which they may or may not have control over. Feelings of embarrassment, annoyance and social discomfiture may be felt by the parents in various social settings. 1. Psychosocial Difficulties of Parents of Children with Severe Disabilities Raising a child requires significant investment in time, money and, more importantly, love, tenderness and caring! For a child with severe disabilities, parents may feel overwhelmed with the responsibility they have to bear. Oftentimes, people in the society may view children with disabilities unfairly and may unknowingly look with pity at the childrenââ¬â¢s parents. Among the psychosocial difficulties of parents are anxiety, depression and anger among others. Some parents find it really difficult to accept that their child has severe disabilities. This denial, then, would backfire and manifest in many ways. In a sense, denial is an escape from responsibility. Parents feel hopeless and unwilling to reconcile what went wrong with the pregnancy or with the disabilities of young children (Lavin, 2001). Anxiety and guilt can also be manifested by parents of children with disabilities. They may blame themselves for what happened and for not loving their children more. They may become conflicted internallyââ¬âthey hover between hating the responsibility thrust on them by their childââ¬â¢s disabilities and at the same feeling guilty that they feel that way. At some point, they may even get angry at the child at the world or at themselves for their childââ¬â¢s situation. Depression may also occur, depending on the gravity of the situation, the social connections of the parents and their ability to cope with the situation. When they are in social situations such as at the mall or in public places, the disabilities of the child may be highlighted and they may feel ââ¬Å"specialâ⬠as well. If parents are not able to accept the situation of their child and deal with it, they may find it difficult to adjust normally and raise their child well (Olsen Fuller, 2003). 2. Perception of the Child, the Parents and the Specialists Perceptions and mindsets are powerful. The way that parents view their child with special needs will affect how they treat such a child. While the broader society expects parents to love their children unconditionally, this may be more difficult for some parents. There are parents who may view a child with special needs as a nuisance and an unwanted burden and responsibility. Naturally, such an attitude and perception will resonate in the way that they treat the child. Trained medical practitioners and therapists are able to look at a child with special needs objectively and deliver all the necessary care the child needs. Such caring, however, were arrived at through years of training. This is the reason why parents of children with disabilities sometimes need to go to counseling so as to adjust their perceptions and their view of the situation. The perception of parents are also important for practitioners, special education teachers and other professionals to work with the parents in providing the necessary care and services for the growth and development of the child with disabilities (Bruns Mogharreban, 2008). If parents and practitioners have the same perception of the child, then it becomes easier for them to work together. As the child grows and interacts with more people in his immediate surroundings and in the broader community where he or she belongs to, collaboration between the parents and the professionals that deliver services for children with special needs becomes even more important. 3. Recommendations for Early Child Intervention Early intervention for children with special needs is necessary so that they, too, could enjoy a normal life. Not because they have disabilities means that they could not contribute meaningfully to the society. In fact, there have been great artists and craftsmen who managed to excel in what they do even with disabilities. Diagnose early. Early diagnosis of the childââ¬â¢s actual situation is very much needed. While a couple may have trouble accepting the reality of their childââ¬â¢s situation, knowing exactly what their child faces will help them get prepared and able to cope with the situation. Consequently, parents should enhance their attitude and perceptions toward the child. If needed, they should seek counseling so that they could better sort through their emotions and deal with any denial, guilt or anxiety they may be feeling. Following such counseling, the parents need to learn how to teach the right behavior to their child. Special education teachers may be able to bring out the best out of children with special needs. Yet, the role of the home and of the parents is still very important in the life of a child with special needs. It is inside the home where behavior is first mimicked, learned and reinforced. Without such learning inside the home, the child will find it difficult to adapt to his world and to the different kinds of people around him. Seeking out schools for children with special needs will also be a good move for the family so as to regulate the childââ¬â¢s behavior early on. 4. How I relate with a child with special needs. It is difficult to imagine myself in the shoes of a child with severe disabilities. But I am sure that I would still have curiosity because of what I see, hear, touch, smell and taste. I would be able to use all of these senses with verifying efficacy. While I may be limited by certain disabilities, that will not take away my senses. As such, I will still manage to use my curiosity to explore my world. As a child, I have felt the warmth of love and care from my parents and from the people that I am close to. Although the parents of a child with disabilities may find the situation of their child difficult, most of the time, they still want the best for their child. If I were growing up as a child with special needs, I would also learn that I have a sense of limitation. Everyone has different kinds of limitations in their lives. The limitations, however, are greater for children with disabilities. I would not help but compare myself with other children since that is a natural part of growing up. That might also be a source of frustration for a child with disabilities. As I put myself in the shoes of a child with disabilities, I could not help but appreciate what I have now. This is not to say that I pity those children with special needs. But it can be difficultââ¬âfor the child and for the parents. This is why intervention is much needed at an early age when the childââ¬â¢s body and consciousness can be molded rather easily. Any childââ¬âwith or without disabilitiesââ¬âwill always appreciate sincere love and affection, first from parents and then from people around him. Hence, in providing care for them, there should always be a tinge of love and tenderness. Reference Bruns, D. A. Mogharreban, C. C. (2008). Monetary policy Essay Example for Free
Monetary policy Essay The Federal Reserve which is commonly referred to as FED is the central authority to the US money and banking system.Ã It utilizes the monetary policies at its disposal with the aim of ensuring that prices, foreign exchange rates as well as long term interest rates remain stable.Ã Stability in these three areas is beneficial in as far as investment is concerned and they trigger economic growth.Ã (McConnell and Brue, 2004). Other objectives of FED include ensuring that the inflation rate is kept relatively low and the employment levels boosted. Ã The monetary policies adopted include the open market operations, manipulating of the reserve requirement and discount rates. The open market operations refer to the buying of US treasury as well as the federal agency securities with the aim of influencing the money supply and demand. OMO is the most applied tool due to its flexibility in influencing money demand. Fed also ensures that the financial sector remains stable while protecting the interests of the customers due to the realization of the importance of money supply in the economy. (www.federalreserve.gov). One challenge that faces FED as it tries to ensure economic growth through the various monetary policies is the fact that realizing one aim results to another problem or rather poses a different challenge.Ã Selling government securities with the aim of increasing the money supply in an economy may trigger increased inflation by some margin. Increasing the employment levels also triggers inflation which Fed tries to counter in the first place.Ã To ensure that the impact of such inflation is contained, it is imperative that Fed sets its target appropriately so that a compromise is attained.Ã Attaining one objective at the expense of the other should be well addressed. Timing issues which emanates from the fact that there is a time lag between when Fed realizes or rather recognizes a problem and decides to react by selecting an appropriate monetary policy and when the effect of the implemented policy is felt.Ã To ensure increased efficiency in the monetary policies, Fed must adopt effective tools or strategies of gathering information to ensure that immediate responses are made as demanded by the economy. (McEachern, 2005). Fed structure is quite complex thus making the implementation of its policies difficult and cumbersome. This also contributes to the delayed implementation of monetary policies which has a negative effect in as far as attaining the core objectives is concerned. The board of governors of Fed are also too powerful and can be manipulated easily especially by the political leaders who have some vested interest. The establishment of an effective independent central bank would minimize the chances of political influences which compromise on the effectiveness of Fed. (Baumol and Blinder, 2008). Identify and explain at least three ways that the Federal Reserve affects the banking system through open market operations (OMO). As earlier noted, Fed uses the OMO monetary tool where US treasury and federal agency securities are traded to regulate the money supply in the economy. Buying of federal treasury and agency security is done when the aim of Fed is to reduce the money supply in the economy while selling increases money supply thus used in recessionary times. There can be permanent as well as temporary changes to Fed reserves when outright sales or purchases are made. A system repurchase method can be adopted to impose temporary changes. Ã Fed purchases government bonds from the public which increases the reserves of the commercial banks after it pays for them. Purchasing such reserves sees the banks increase their reserves in an amount equal to what has been paid for the reserves.Ã The same case happens when reserves has been purchased from the public. Fed can also sells government securities that are not being used to the commercial banks as well as the general public hence surrendering the securities to the banks or general public who can then draw checks against the deposits made. Through this approach Fed reduces the amount of money supply that is available for the commercial banks which also translates to reduced money supply in the entire economy. (www.federalreserve.gov). Purchasing of government bonds by Fed leads to the reduction of interest rates which encourages banks and households to dispose their reserves to Fed. The selling of such bonds lowers the prices of bonds while increasing the interest rates to make the bonds attractive to the general public as well as the commercial banks. Fed also purchases or sells the treasury bonds or bills which affect their deposits by increasing or decreasing in size. This also affects the volume as well as growth of banks by allowing them to have increased reserves at their disposal thus more to lend to both commercial banks as well as households.Ã This leads to their increased growth as they make earnings through the interest charged.Ã The OMO also affects the lending processes as it affects the interest rates which are attached to the bank borrowings and loans. OMO regulates the money supply in an economy by either increasing it or decreasing it. (McConnell and Brue, 2004). Explain how changes in reserve requirements and the discount rate affect the operations of banks and other depository institutions. The discount rates are monetary policy tools that can be used by Fed to influence the money supply and demand in the economy with the aim of influencing economic growth. Discount rates or discount widow can be defined as the rates charged by Fed to commercial banks which in turn affects the amount of money such banks or financial institutions have thus their lending capacity.Ã The major types of the depository windows by Fed are the primary, secondary and seasonal credits which have varying interest rates. (www.federalreserve.gov). The discount rates attached to primary credit are generally higher than those attached to other short term discounts in the market.Ã Interest rates charged on secondary credit are also higher than the primary credit interest rate while the seasonal credit discount rates are the average of selected market rates.Ã When Fed increases the discounts rates it discourages commercial banks from borrowing money from it but a reverse effect is felt when the discount rates are lowered. The amount of money in an economy is increased when banks are encouraged to borrow funds from the Federal Reserve.Ã The reserve requirement refers to the amount of money or funds that financial institutions are expected to deposit with Fed against their securities.Ã The amount set as reserve requirement is determined by the board of governors of Fed as guided by the American law and it is held in terms of vault cash. Increasing the reserves requirement rates leads to increased required reserves of what the financial institutions are expected to keep with the Fed and this translates to reduced ability to lend money to both banks as well as household thus reducing the money supply in an economy.Ã The reserve is also true. (www.federalreserve.gov).

An Effective Communication Tool Marketing Essay
An Effective Communication Tool Marketing Essay This essay will explain the various communication tools that Cadbury has used in communicating the desired position to target market and will describe two TV ads communication campaign and online game communication campaign, meanwhile evaluate the company has effectively communicated the desired position based on these campaigns. A part from that, Cadbury has used three communication mix, advertising, sales promotion, and public relations. Cadbury, provides one of the most successful example of how an advertising message can be modified from one campaign to the next to attribute new values to a brand giving consumers more reasons to buy Cadbury, the same creative message is then communicated through point of sale, merchandising, package design and public relations. Cadbury always look at creative and commercial success separately. It started with a drumming gorilla, the most successful advert of 2007. The video went viral on the internet, as users posted it on video-sharing sites and e-mailed friends. It also, if less memorably, boosted sales of Daily Milk by 9 per cent, helping Cadbury to reverse its fortunes after the confectioner had lost market position and was suffering from the fallout of a salmonella scare and also created bad public relations. Now Cadbury is hoping to repeat the trick with a new à £3.7 million campaign to come up with the third in its series of adverts for Cadbury. This advertising also can co nsider as reminder advertising because it keeps consumer thinking about the brand. The advert features two children, a boy and a girl wearing a dress in the trademark Cadbury purple sitting for what appears to be a standard school photograph session. The fun starts when the photographers light testing is interrupted by a ringing phone. The alarm phone from the boys digital wrist watches transform into a full blown remix of the 1980s Freestyle hit, Dont Stop the Rock. Two mischievous children performing bizarre eyebrow dance moves to an electro-funk soundtrack. One-minute television and cinema advertisement for Cadbury chocolates is thought to have been viewed more than four million times on YouTube in its first three weeks. The commercial, released in the UK on January 23, has the potential to hook a new generation of fans while attracting the attention of those coming of age in the mid 1980s. Based on research (), it is twice the number of viewings racked up at the same stage by the firms previous cult clip, in which a gorilla plays drums. According to YouTube, Cadbury Gorilla Advert in 2007 has 5 million viewers and Eyebrows Advert has 7 million of viewers, this is a huge amount of increased and it also leads customer awareness about Cadbury. This advertisement brings a message content that consists emotional appeal because the idea is to create an antidote to the gloom to make consumers smile, a minute and a half of joy, and enjoyable as the product. The manager wants to ensure that this antidote is spread as far and wide. Therefore, Cadbury paid for 40 per cent of the population to see 60 per cent recognized it and this came from digital exposure. First came the e-mails among friends linking to YouTube clips, them came to remixes and the spoofs. It is edging up to one million views and at one point it was the third-most-watched clip on the website, behind Barack Obamas inauguration speech. Despite consumer goods marketing traditionally using the persuasion model (buy this because it works/tastes good). Cadbury believes that less direct advertising creates curiousity, such as the gorilla campaign, is most effective. The old Gorilla drumming ads is probably made people feel a bit curious, people probably wondered if it was actually a trained monkey or a man in a suit. People might or might not have noticed it was for Cadburys chocolates, and if people did think like this, people might also have wondered why a drumming gorilla should make people want to buy chocolate. All these thoughts are Cadburys objectives to create reminder of the brand to the publicity. Eyebrows is a simple form of advertisement, most people smile when look at the idea, and that was the strongest indicator that Cadbury were on to something. In my opinion, Eyebrows is the new Glass and A Half Full Production from Cadbury Dairy Milk which will bring a smile to our consumers and customer. The Eyebrows campaign will be fully supported through the line with a large Digital and Public Relations campaign which will raise a few Eyebrows and lots of smile throughout the time the campaign is on air. Sales promotion is the second communication tools used by Cadbury. Cadbury developed a website game that provides education to children with sales promotion at the same time. Traditionally, parents buy Freddo as treats for kids, brand awareness campaigns have been aimed at these parents, hoping they would continue to choose Freddo frogs based on passive advertising, TV and print. From an awareness point of view these campaigns worked, as awareness was at 99%. However, sales were on the decline. The reason is when it comes to treats today, parents still buy but it is the kids who choose. Therefore, Cadbury starts to develop a unique brand entertainment channel for Freddo to again create a deeper awareness because people do not aware of the existence of Freddo game. First, Cadbury will identify the target customer which is the parents and the children to remind them Cadbury Freddo is one of the choices to purchase as a gift. In my opinion, Cadbury is using determine communication objectives to convince the consumer to buy their product. Cadbury stopped marketing the brand product, chocolate frogs; and started marketing the brand character, Freddo. Freddo leaping onto the internet and inspiring children to learn new skills online developed under the theme of edu-tainment. Cadbury engaged teachers and child psychologists to bring this experience to life. In addition, they also give knowledge to the consumer and children to make them like the video game. The video game called The Adventures of Freddo one and two, the adventures of Freddo website featuring animated storytelling, games and activities for young consumers. It has already attracted 160,000 registered players for the first episode of adventures of Freddo in 2009. It allows children beings to explore Freddo online world they will uncover the first animated adventure The Secret of the Golden Keys. Freddo, along with his friends Ashley, Hannah and Zac, set off on a quest through time to save their teacher Professor Jeffrey and defeat the monster Cane Toad Goaf. In my opinion, Cadbury are trying to make the children prefer Cadbury Freddo brand compare to the others brands and trying to get them into conviction and make them to play the game or purchase the Cadbury Freddo Chocolate. The adventures of Freddo Two (The Mystery of Slater Island) followed the successful of first online adventure of Freddo the Frog. So now, Australias iconic chocolate frog is back for a second season. Launching in the March 2010 school holidays The Adventures of Freddo of the Mystery of Slater Island introduces exciting characters and an engaging new way to become part of Freddos universe. Once again, kids are along for the ride; completing immersive, educational games and activities that are sewn right into the storyline. Cadbury also developed a 31 seconds tv advertisement that brings emotional appeal showing a story about Freddo Prince Frog. This TV advertisement has launched during shared family viewing times in the daytime and afternoon. In my point of view, Cadbury are using reminder advertising to keeps consumer thinking about Freddo. The reward of the game and TV ads has been massive growth in brand. The result shows that over 200,000 kids registered, 500,000 episodes watched, 3,000,000 games played, over 30,000,000 minutes spent on the site and 25% sale increased. However, the Adventures of Freddo website has attracted criticism, it upset the health lobby who see it as promoting chocolate products to children. The Coalition on Food Advertising to Children disputed Cadburys assessment of the campaign and said there were loopholes in the self-regulatory code. They concluded that the marketing its use of interactive games to lure children into the branded environment. Cadbury argues that the advertising messaging did not undertake direct marketing of foods to children. Marketing activity to promote was targeted at parents. Parents are the gatekeepers. Kids are unable to go on the website without parents registering the kids. . In my opinion, the game and TV ads create or increases pester power of buying Cadbury Freddo chocolate. The third communication tools used by Cadbury are Public Relations. Cadbury has the art of building good corporate relation with the number of public including society. The first tools that used in the practice of public relations are creating event and giveaways. The Cadbury Freddo Roadshow at Auckland Zoo, children learn all about New Zealands four endangered species of native frogs, and how to help to save them. Every visitor to the Freddo Frog Roadshow will receive an educational booklet for further studies. The second tools are sponsorship. Cadbury receive many requests every day for donations and support. One of the examples is Learning Links. Learning Links is an Australia charity and non-profit organisation formed to help children who have learning disabilities, difficulties and development delays and their families. Cadbury also used public relations to counter poor publicity. For example the Adventure of Freddo game has attracted criticism from some quarters of the health lobby for targeting young children with chocolate. Internet marketing is renowned for its use of interactive games to lure children into the branded environment. Cadbury explains to the community that the site is an example of responsible marketing to children with no chocolate featured on the site. It does not market to children under 12. They are just creating an educational game for children who are under 12. Cadbury also provides identity media such as Freddo cartoon tattoo to children as a gift for purchasing a packet of Cadbury Freddo. In the other hand, Cadbury also created bad public relations in 2006. A rare strain of the Salmonella bacteria is detected and it affecting seven of its products, it has been caused by a leaking pipe. The Health Protection Agency established that 37 people, many of them young children had become ill after eating infected chocolate. More than a million of chocolate bars recalled. This creates bad public relations to the publicity. http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/media/article5634660.ece http://www.aglassandahalffullproductions.co.nz/milk-chocolate/cadbury-advert.html Theory http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/4634737/Dancing-eyebrows-advert-for-Cadburys-becomes-a-hit.html Cadbury Eyebrows Raised in Electric Boogaloo http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/media/article5634660.ece ADD THE PROVE of eyebrows has increase the number of viewer comparing with the godrila and truck add. (DONE) Provide the public relations has increase the awareness ? Based on research (), the message that wants to bring to the public from this advertisement is Over at Glass and a Half Full Productions we noticed that wriggly potential of eyebrows and thought we would have a bit of fun with them, said the Cadbury marketing director. In addition, like the other production Eyebrows is all about losing yourself and embracing that moment of joyà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦after all, everybody remembers pulling a silly face or getting up to no good as a child when backs were turned.

Critique of the 2007 WCRF Report on Cancer Prevention Essay -- Health,
The Internationally acclaimed World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) International in London, UK, is considered among many scientists, to be the leader in the unification of charities dedicated to cancer research. (Beck, et al., 296). Beck, Thompson and Allen summarized the 2007 WCRF information and statistics from around the world on cancer prevention in their paper, ââ¬Å"Policy and Action for Cancer Prevention -- Highlights from a New Report by the World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research.â⬠Cancer in its many forms is on the rise globally; in 2007 there were 11.3 million cases of cancer and this number is expected to rise to 15.5 million cases by 2030 (296). There are two main reasons for the increase in this deadly disease; ââ¬Å"populations of many countries are agingâ⬠¦ [and] the populations of many countries areâ⬠¦ consuming more foods and drinks that promote weight gain, leading to a higher prevalence of overweight and obesityâ⬠(296). One of the main purposes of their Policy Report is to provide the public with information that helps achieve ââ¬Å"health goals for reducing cancer riskâ⬠(296). The WCRF suggests policies that protect life at all stages and in this report ââ¬Å"special emphasisâ⬠(298) was placed on policies to help children, young women and mothers achieve higher standards in nutrition thereby reducing their risk of cancer. Many scientists are in agreement now that lifestyle with emphasis on proper nutrition is a key factor in reducing the risk of cancer. The 2007 WCRF Report was compiled by a panel of 23 international experts on cancer prevention, who closely examined evidence from a 2007 Diet and Cancer report. Confucius in Modern China Essay -- philosophical ideologies
Every culture is composed of many philosophical ideologies that comprise the ever-changing nature of said nation. Many cultures do not have a monolithic, nor static nature; ideas such as Maoism, Daoism, Christianity, etc., challenge the preexisting notions that are part of a culture. Even though the Chinese government has established a strong strand against Confucianism, it is still a part of the Chinese culture in socio-political, economic, familial, and individual levels. Confucianism is still prevalent though business, education, the Confucian revival, the previous ties China had with Confucianism, and a return to old traditions as a default. Through the economic-business aspect point of view, Confucianism still holds sway over many of the actions and feelings in Chinese business, and some even say that, ââ¬Å"it is impossible to do business in China and not feel the effects of Confucian philosophyâ⬠(Jacobs 29). For example, the sense of a social hierarchy is painfully obvious when foreign entrepreneurs do business with Chinese companies. In a business venture, ââ¬Å"a British marketer who invited several Chinese guests to a trade promotion receptionâ⬠¦ According to Chinese tradition, the glass of wine should have been presented to the highest trade official firstâ⬠(Jacobs 29). This sense of hierarchy is also integrated into several manifestations of Chinese business management, particularly in an individual level that builds up to the corporation as a whole; due to the fact that the majority of people are expected to behave according to rank, they are disinclined to present ideas that may lead to the de velopment of the business. Jacobs also says that this explains ââ¬Å"much of the inertia in Chinese businesses, particularly in state-owned en... ...ts influence is still strong. For example, ââ¬Å"the Chinese state is allocating a $10 billion fund to sponsor a worldwide network of schools to promote Chinese culture and languageâ⬠in the Chinese Bridge Program, which is viewed as he first step to a wider global acceptance of Confucian philosophy (Zhu). Speaking in a historical sense, in times of major social change, such as when the Communist party came into political power, Confucianism was derided and dismissed. Although political agendas and events try to mask the traditional ideologies of the Chinese people, recent political changes have said to create a new structure (Jacobs 30). Just as any other philosophy that has been imbued with a culture, Confucianism is not easy thing to dissolve; the basic principals form the basis of much of Chinaâ⬠²s culture on a business, familial, socio-political, and individual levels.
